Zlatan Ibrahimovic comes back to haunt Arsenal on a painful night
The Gunners were cruelly exposed by a player Arsene Wenger has signed back nearly 12 years is now excelling in Milan
Arsene Wenger called his worst night club in European competition, a 4-0 defeat of developed and concluded a player could ever be signed. Now Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to haunt the north London club, the dismantling of the defense Wenger over and over again before finishing with them from the penalty spot.
It was a presentation that highlights the painful truth of the 17 points difference from Wenger's team of leaders of the Premier League and showed how much work remains to be done before the claims may be a renaissance with confidence. Opponents also experienced that Milan have only a remote chance to redeem himself at the Emirates Stadium in a fortnight and further progress in the Champions League this season.
is a near certainty, then they will play in European competition next season at the top only on success in achieving the first four in the league. Based on how they played last night, any assessment of this possibility should be deeply pessimistic. The implications would be severe and critical of the recent trajectory of Wenger - silenced by the signs of recovery in recent weeks - has become more strident
After inspecting the field of San Siro, with its grass strips on both sides relaunched recently, Wenger criticized the surface on the eve of the match. Returned to the subject in the wake of defeat, but from a different perspective. "It would be unfair for me to blame the field, even if it was a disaster," he said. "Our performance was at the same level the playing field."
- Milan players could be seen replacing divots, even during the warm-up, but they have adapted much more convincing than the conditions - and especially a man, he did. A dozen years ago Wenger has shown interest in attacking a lanky teenager who traveled from Sweden to London for talks with Arsenal, but was not impressed with the request of the French to take part in a trial. When he finally stopped Malmö Ibrahimovic was at Ajax. Two years ago he returned to score two goals for Barcelona in the Emirates and Wednesday evenings, the use of red and black stripes of AC Milan, who redoubled pain despite scoring only once.
- English critics are right to compromise the ability to perform Ibrahimovic in a great opportunity. Ineffective because it may have been in friendly against Fabio Capello November at Wembley on Wednesday night, joked Arsenal to distraction. If his teammates have even half of their impulses, the margin of victory would have doubled.
Until then, the rearguard Arsenal was almost facing the task of suppressing the conscious approach to the game in Milan, even when his own teammates who have played in danger. Despite traveling to Milan is still plagued by the absence of key players, Wenger was able to deploy their first choice back four for the first time in six months. Bacary Sagna, Laurent Koscielny, Thomas Vermaelen and Kieran Gibbs started the opening game of the season in the Premier League, Newcastle United, and met again for the Champions League play-off draw against Udinese at home on August 12, keeping clean sheets on both occasions. Until last night which was the sum total of their contribution to the season as a unit, but their meeting would not be happy.
They may have been encouraged by the vision of Clarence Seedorf in the tunnel disappear after only 12 minutes with what appeared to be a muscle strain. Exceptionally distinguished himself as a winner of four times European Cup with three different clubs, 35 years started the game with their usual quiet way, is making appropriate charges, as he established a rhythm of their colleagues. His departure, apparently, could only be good news. Any consolation, however, proved illusory. First came the opening goal in Milan, 38 minutes, followed by another blow. Ibrahimovic drift lazily past Sagna on the left and put the ball in passing with his heels before clipping in a center of the lane that Robinho walked past Wojciech Szczesny with every effort that could be devoted to light a cigarette.
