Paris prosecutors opened a preliminary investigation after the complaint files Tristane Banon that the former IMF chief tried to rape in 2003

The office of the Paris prosecutor opened a preliminary investigation of a complaint filed by the French writer Tristane Banon alleging attempted rape by former IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn in 2003.

David Koubbi, Banon lawyer, filed the complaint this week for an incident that took place Banon claims when she went to interview Mr. Strauss-Kahn in a Parisian apartment while she was in her 20 years of age.

Strauss-Kahn, a Socialist party heavyweight, was a favorite to dethrone Nicolas Sarkozy in the presidential elections next year, until his arrest in New York in May on charges of sexual assault launched his political future in question.

The case could even damage your future. Koubbi said Thursday he was "physical" evidence in the case, but refused to say whether that includes text messages and recordings.

Under French law, sexual assault charges must be filed within three years, but charges of attempted rape up to 10 years after the alleged assault.
