Catholic church weighs up response to criticism from Ireland
Enda Kenny can use the report on sexual abuse by priests to divert attention from the crisis of the euro
next month, as every year since he was elected to head the Catholic world, the learned Pope Benedict XVI will preside at a meeting of its Schülerkreis -. A group of his former doctoral students
This year's theme of the discussion at the Pope's summer palace, overlooking a volcanic lake near Rome, is the one who was chosen to meet:. The way to reverse the rampant secularization of European Catholicism homeland
The discussion could not be more timely, coming amid a crisis in relations between the Holy See and Ireland, a country where, until recently, the challenge Roman official was unthinkable.
Vatican in response to Enda Kenny is passionate about the complaint on July 20 was a surprise. But as a temporary recall of its ambassador to the Holy See, or nuncio, five days later showed, it is also mixed with indignation.
The deputy spokesman ofthe pope, Father Ciro Benedettini, gave the movement a positive gloss, saying that the Holy See, the nuncio we need to return to Rome so that he can preparing its response to Cloyne "objectively and determination." However, this reflects the temporary withdrawal Benedettini Touch called "surprised and disappointed over-reaction."
In diplomacy, the withdrawal of an application is sent a clear signal of disapproval and the Avvenire, the journal of the Italian bishops' conference, was unable to find a precedent in the annals the high diplomacy of the Vatican.

- person disputes the allegations of sexual abuse of children in the diocese of Cloyne were badly mauled by the bishop, John Magee. But Vatican officials say they are pilloried by the actions of a pastor who has his instructions. Prime Minister
In particular, objected to a provision that goes beyond the requirements of Irish law at the time and suggested that: "In all cases that are known or suspected priest. .. has sexually abused a child, the matter should be reported to civil authorities. "The Vatican said it would contradict the very laws of the church.
Commission Murphy concluded that the objections of Rome gave bishops - including Magee - the freedom to ignore the directives of the bishops. But speaking to Radio Vatican, July 19, the pope's spokesman, Father Federico Lombardi, said that "there is no reason to interpret the letter as to conceal the abuse. In fact, had already warned of the risk measures that could be disputed and invalid canonical point of view. "
