Letters: Marking to market on tuition fees

you the report (December 3) that a number of English universities have lowered their rates proposed for 2012. The regulator, Offa, said now to contact all students who requested them to inform them of changes. But surely the university should contact prospective students who
not
is applied. In fact, Ucas surely need now to invite all candidates for 2012 to reconsider their choice of five. After all, in a market, price changes can influence the decisions students make. Only "fair" for everyone to rethink their applications -. Including, in particular those who have placed applications through UCAS

A year ago, we said the bill rate had to be rushed through parliament, with only five hours of debate, because the university Vice-Chancellor and their leaders had to deal with absolute certainty, what they ask so they can plan for 2012. It now appears that this was not misleading. The only honorable way out - if it is not right - left of the road is to delay the whole plan, at least until it has been properly discussed and pondered. The future of our universities and our next generation of students is too important to deal with a very special way. Maybe Offa may be invited to explain their action in that this is right, perhaps you can explain if UCAS been consulted. Perhaps British universities can rise to achieve a well planned future for our universities

We, however, changed our access agreement with Offa, so they can offer new scholarships to applicants who have £ 4000 Aston antibodies in our A-level or equivalent, and improve fellowships to candidates who have a household income under £ 42,000. If these agreements were in place now, almost a quarter of the students would get an Aston Excellence Award, both for their academic achievement and support a family based on income of the scholarship. We were able to do this because we have reduced rates. This is because most students take four years with Aston during a year of internship based integrated in business or professions. The year of investment is available to all for a nominal sum of one thousand pounds. So -. No cuts, just a real investment in academic performance and employability prospects of our students
