We must not abandon young people to unemployment | John Studzinski
One million unemployed young people in Britain are now refusing to essential life skills of how to work with others
With a full head of global crisis, it is dangerously easy to excuse our neglect of a statistic by the number of young people who are unemployed in the UK has exceeded one million. Remember also that ours is not the only economy that suffer youth unemployment is rampant. In Spain, almost half of all young people are unemployed, while the OECD notes that in the first quarter of 2011, nearly 20% from 15 to 24 were unemployed, against a figure of almost 7% for older workers.
Young people may be short of work, but can still have an impact on politics and economics. His skill with social networks have helped to stimulate and encourage Arab spring summer riots in London (unemployed young people are not even smartphones), and field of an important voice in the San Pablo and the protests on Wall Street. More generally, the cohort is growing rapidly in many countries, while the lack of employment opportunities is a causal variable in the economic dramas presently sweeping the world. As a valuable human capital for the present and the future can not be ignored, is a question of sustainability
None of any political ideology or economic school do not agree that education and work are good things for young people, but we could not find a reliable and take a realistic experience in a stable job. Meanwhile, in another major demographic trends, an increasing number of elderly people are forced to work past traditional retirement age, young people are increasingly falling through the cracks in the global economy. This trend threatens the future well-being of all.
Ability to work successfully with others is an essential skill in life that we have tended to be acquired by trial and error. In today's leaner, hungrier and more tightly controlled in the world, workers at all levels have less time and money to waste in this context, maturity and intelligence to be an example for life active at an early age instills discipline, while encouraging entrepreneurship. This applies to both the centralized economy of China as the traditional market in the U.S. for free.
But it became more difficult for young people of all backgrounds to enter the world of work. While formal education may offer a desirable way for those who develop manuals or technical, highly skilled are forced to make their professional
- labor of good work as interns. No doubt when it comes to creating and providing jobs, the primary responsibility must rest with the private sector, while the government has a collaborative role for the game, both the supply and promotion of investment that puts people - especially young people - so productive at work
need a structure that not only prepares young people essential skills for success, but also provides valuable experience in an industry or sector. Of Europe, all countries should commit to an obligation of two years of the program of paid internships or work experience for all young adults between 16 and 24. The program must be flexible enough to accommodate the needs of youth. For example, could consist of a continuous period of two years of work, or building blocks in short discreet. Might even be a positive and productive alternative to prison for young people convicted of crimes (such as looting during the riots in London).
This program would work first, you can run as a tripartite partnership between government, private sector and nongovernmental organizations like the International Youth Foundation, which supports training for employment and the entrepreneurship in places as diverse as Latin America, the Caribbean, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and Tanzania. Higher funding from foundations and wealthy individuals.
