Castlebeck raised 'serious concerns' - watchdog
private hospitals and nursing homes ordered the companies to "root and branch" improving the quality of care of the Commission
a private care company was forced to close one of its hospitals after the horrific allegations of abuse has been ordered by the watchdog to help "root and branch improvements" after social Inspectors raised "serious concerns" about the treatment of people with intellectual disabilities in three hospitals and home care.
Care Quality Commission(CQC), Castlebeck first an investigation after an undercover BBC reporter secretly filmed residents vulnerable to learning disabilities in hospital of Winterbourne, near Bristol is stopped, slapped bathed in cold water and repeatedly taunted and mocked. Twelve people work at the hospital were arrested and are currently on bail. Four other employees were suspended Castlebeck Villa Rose House Bristol attention amid allegations of misconduct.
The CQC has inspected 23 properties owned by Doncaster and services based Castlebeck and almost half were "judged by inspectors who do not meet basic standards of quality and safety." Among them, four patients - Arden Vale, near Coventry, Rose Villa, Bristol, Croxton Lodge, Melton Mowbray, Leics and Cedar Vale in Nottingham - abuse
Among the violations, the inspectors found that patients were not immune to the "physical and emotional damage", "restriction was [not] always appropriate, reasonable, proportionate and justified in that person, "" the people ... are not safe "and not enough staff. As a result of these findings, the Nursing and Midwifery Council has launched an investigation into the conduct of nurses employed by Castlebeck.
The stakes are high, as the CQC has the power to strip Castlebeck the right to service delivery.
CQC chief executive Cynthia Bower said of the problem was not on the same scale as Winterbourne Vista. . "Our inspections found a number of problems, many of which are found in a number of different services, which clearly indicates that there are problems that must be addressed Castlebeck company level - the company must improve bottom of their services and processes, "said Bower.
Other sites that do not comply are: Acrefield House in Wirral, nursing home Briar Court in Hartlepool, Hexham Chesterholme in the center of East Midlands neurological rehabilitation in Melton Mowbray, Hollyhurst Darlington, at Oaklands Willow Hexham House in Edgbaston.
- The CQC is the monitoring of their research in a thorough review of learning disability services Castlebeck. "We will carry out unannounced inspections of 150 of these services," said Bower. Paul Burstow

The NHS and local authorities Castlebeck pay an average of 3,500 pounds per week to care for each patient. Since 2006, when Lydia Capital bought the company, annual revenues grew 80% to 55 pounds.
Paul Pierce Brosnan, president of 35 years, son of Denis Brosnan Castlebeck, resigned earlier this month following the closure of Winterbourne Vista. Dick Stockford, a senior consultant in the NHS has come to turn to the company. Castlebeck CEO Lee Reed said the company has identified areas for improvement when he took office in January.
