Tori Amos musical shelved by National Theatre

The Light Princess, the centerpiece of the season of the National Commission for the spring of 2012, was postponed indefinitely, the Guardian can reveal

An eagerly awaited new music from Tori Amos, scheduled to have its world premiere at the National Theatre, has been postponed indefinitely, the Guardian can exclusively reveal.

The Light Princess, an adaptation of the 19th century fairytale George MacDonald of the same name, with music and lyrics by American composer, was due to open in April of next Lyttelton Theatre.

was announced by artistic director Nicolas Hytner National in January, and it would be the centerpiece of the spring season of theater, directed by Marianne Elliott, who co-directed the most successful hit NL recent years, War Horse.

However, despite numerous workshops, the musical has been postponed for fear they will not be ready in time. At present, no date set for world premiere
