One in four young people get no careers advice

Survey shows 28% of those who study learning programs, and lack of vocational GNVQ BTecs

A quarter of teens say they have never received any counseling, according to a survey.

The survey of 1,620 15 to 19 years found that those in vocational training courses were less likely to have been given guidance

Approximately 22% of those studying for A-levels and university courses said they had not received professional advice. This figure rose to 28% for those taking learning and GNVQ BTecs

The survey, conducted on behalf of the City & Guilds - a review board for vocational courses -. There are also teenagers were much more likely to seek advice from parents if they had gone to college

Grist said this could lead to "computer generated" replacement of a student council face to face discussions with careers advisers.

"Young people are dependent effective advice to help them choose careers and learning options that match their interests, talents and aspirations," he said. "It is not enough to expect a telephone company or a remote site will be able to give them the support they need, or that managers in distress can find room in their budgets for the highest quality, against - face counseling.
