Eidur Gudjohnsen poised to join West Ham on a free transfer

. Gudjohnsen set to undergo a medical examination at Upton Park

. Striker is available in a free country after being released by Stoke

West Ham United are close to signing former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen and Barcelona. The 32-year-old Iceland international is due to undergo a medical examination before a move to Upton Park on a free transfer after being released by Stoke at the end of last season.

Premier League newcomers Swansea also interested in Gudjohnsen, but is willing to sign a year to renew friendships with the new West Ham, Sam Allardyce.
But Allardyce wants Gudjohnsen to lower a line stripped of Demba Ba, Robbie Keane and Victor Obinna after the descent of the Hammers. Carlton Cole is still uncertain future, with Stoke have agreed a payment of approximately 4 million pounds, even if the attacker has not yet agreed on a personal level.

Despite his probable departure, Cole came on as substitute in the 2-1 friendly defeat by West Ham FC Basel in Switzerland on Wednesday night. His fellow England international Robert Green and Scott Parker does not seem that speculation continues about their fates for next season.
green has become a target for West Brom, Roy Hodgson, while West Ham are open to the possibility of providing Parker back to Chelsea for one year.
