Why I'm taking the police to court for kettling me | Adam Castle

I was 16 and went to protest peacefully with my friends about our future, but were detained for 10 hours without food or water

This week, the police will prosecute for me and my friends kettling. On November 24, 2010, he joined thousands of other schools, leaving the classroom and go to central London to protest against cuts to education. We protested peacefully, but they were incarcerated at Whitehall by the police for 10 hours, in one of the coldest days of the year, no food and little water. Because I was afraid of being re-kettle, I'm not for the next two demos and many children, including my co-applicant Eaton Sam, did not go in for another demonstration.

I found inspiring to see so many young people attending the event, ready to defend what they believe in. But I am saddened that the police can crush the motivation of this movement to scare young children to attend future events.

This should be considered part of a broader vision that includes the mass arrest of peaceful demonstrators in the Fortnum & Mason UK Uncut and arrests in the actual wedding day . This is the criminalization of dissent, and a healthy democracy can not be allowed to pass unnoticed. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression and the right to protest. For children, this is particularly important. We can not sit back and let the police ignore those rights.
