Stem cell centre gets green light from UK government

Prime Minister this month announced the creation of a. £ 30 million to transform scientific research in stem cells in a new industry several million dollars to help drive recovery in Britain

The cell therapy center will open its doors in April 2012, is part of a £ 220m program of skills to make a success of British industry. Research on stem cells has been selected by the country's second technology and innovation center as British scientists are world leaders in developing treatments for diseases like Parkinson's and prostate cancer, and regeneration of Skin for burn victims.

"This center is responsible for technology and people to stay in Britain, and Britain can benefit from the successful British science," said David Bott, Director of Innovation at the Technology Strategy Board (TSB).

Bott said in the past of the British commercial exploitation of ideas took place abroad because scientists and other experts had left in the "brain drain", particularly the U.S. . However, some scientists stem cells have left the U.S. in recent years due to strict government in controversial research.

"We are in a strong position to maximize growth opportunities as our base of world-class research, an active commercial sector and provide unique links with the NHS.

"The establishment of a network of leaders in the world through a wide range of technology areas will ensure that we remain at the forefront of innovation and technology."

Industry global cell therapy should be worth over £ 3.1 billion a year, according to Professor Chris Mason, Professor of Regenerative Medicine Bioprocessing at UCL.
